We all look at life through different lenses. It is part of what makes us who we are. It doesn’t matter where you are in life right now, how many mistakes you’ve made, the opportunities you’ve passed up, or what’s happened “to you.” You can get clear on your goals and start moving in the direction of your desires.
An effective way to build confidence and clarify your goals is to create a vision board for yourself. Have a vision and document it. Make a plan, write it down, and refer to it often. Knowing that the Universe often just laughs at our detailed plans, keep your focus on the end result.
I have been practicing this technique for many years. I find it helpful to add to my board every few months, each time creating a bigger picture. Vision boards are not just for January and then forgotten. They are a valuable tool you can use to keep you focused on your goals all year long. Louise Hay, author of You Can Heal Your Life, was teaching this long before it became mainstream.
Get into a creative headspace before you begin. Instead of thinking of everything you desire and don’t yet have, think about all of the things you have created in your life so far. Do you have a roof over your head? Awesome. You did that! Do you have relationships that make you happy? Awesome, you did that. Mentally prepare by thinking about key areas in your life: relationships, health, wellness, spirituality, career, and financial prosperity. Think big—the sky is the limit!
There is no one right way to do this. There is just your way. Let your personality shine through for your goals and how you will choose to create it. Do you need to spend a day thinking about this, a week, or is more than five minutes too long? All those strategies are correct—just choose the one that is best for you. It is impossible to do your vision board wrong, so prepare and then relax into the process.
You may be pumped and thinking, yes, let’s do it! Let the co-creating begin! Or you might be wondering exactly why you would ever, ever want to do this. It is not all about being new age, spiritual or mindful. It is about you. It is about you getting clear on what you want and then following those dreams. It is for those times when your confidence is wavering, and self-doubt is taking over.
Your vision board will keep you focused and serve as a daily reminder that your goals and dreams matter – and are achievable.
To create a vision board, gather photos, words, and symbols to represent several areas of your life. Make sure your words, pictures, and symbols speak to your heart and not just what you think your vision should be. When you have completed your vision board, please put it in a place where you can see it and admire it daily. Trust in the process.
There are many ways that vision boards can work for you. Just the act of creating the vision board raises your energy to match the energy you would have if you already had the things on the board! It increases confidence. It helps you to see that you can have the life of your dreams and pushes away fear and self-doubt.
If you follow the Law of Attraction, defined as “that which is like unto itself is drawn,” you will have created a space where you believe you can have what you desire. The more high-vibrating affirmative energy you put toward your goals, the more self-doubt dissipates, and your vision will become your reality.
